Apron Protection

PROTECTIVE MATERIAL

BMS offers three protective materials, all of which have the same amount of protection but vary in weight and cost.

ENVIROLITE BURLITE LEAD
Our premium lead-free protection material which is up to 45% lighter than lead. Made from a composite of non-leaded metals, this material is environmentally friendly but is less durable than Burlite or Lead. Made from a composite of leaded and non-leaded metals, Burlite is our most popular radiation protection material. Burlite is durable and is up to 40% lighter than lead. The traditional protection material, lead is the heaviest, most durable choice. Good for situations where weight is not a consideration.

PROTECTION LEVEL

BMS offers three protection levels. Your protection level is determined by the requirements in your facility. All front/back aprons come standard with 0.25mm back protection.

How can an Envirolite apron protect you if there’s no lead in it? Lead isn’t the only material that can protect you from scatter radiation, it’s just the material traditionally used. BMS’s Envirolite uses a proprietary blend of composite metals to offer you the same protection as lead at a signifigantly lower weight.

Can’t decide on a protective material? If you want to have the lightest apron possible and want to be lead free, you need an Envirolite apron. If you want reduced weight but at a lower cost, consider Burlite. If weight is not a priority, then Lead is for you.

Which level do I need? To determine your requirements, contact the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) of your facility for the required protection levels. Unfortunately, BMS cannot advise you on proper protection levels.
